For those struggling with perfectionism, self-defeating thoughts and behaviours around reaching excessive and unrealistic expectation and standards can have significant impacts on various areas in life such as work, school and home.

To understand perfectionism, it can be helpful to conceptualise how perfectionism may have been developed. Often times, these patterns can be linked to early in an individual’s life experiences (for example, having high achievement may have been reinforced early in life or certain types of behaviour may have been modelled in the early environment by others). There are certain factors that keep the cycle of perfectionism going, including perfectionistic beliefs and thought patterns, perfectionistic behaviour and unrelenting and unrealistic standards.

Find out about the cycle of perfectionism in this video I have put together.
