10 Jul Mrs Katrina Farrant
Children are not mini versions of adults. This foundational belief shapes my entire approach to working with children. Children experience the world differently, and their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours are distinct from those of adults. They communicate and process information in unique ways, often through play and creativity rather than through words alone.
My name is Katrina Farrant, a senior registered psychologist at Prosper Health Collective.
It is my belief that children are unique and deserve a tailored approach. I meet children where they are, using play and creative methods to join them in their world. This approach is also effective with adolescents when adapted to be age-appropriate. I draw from evidence-based techniques such as CBT, ACT, narrative therapy, and play therapy, ensuring each session is individualised and strengths-based. My approach is neurodiverse-affirming, recognising and celebrating the unique perspectives and strengths of each child.
A key part of my work is to deepen parents’ understanding of their child and strengthen the parent-child connection. Together, we will develop goals collaboratively, providing clear direction and focus for therapy sessions.
At PHC, I have a special interest in assessing, diagnosing, and intervening in a range of issues that can affect your child’s learning and development. These include Autism, ADHD, Specific Learning Disorders, Intellectual Disabilities, anxiety, and mood disorders.
I’ve always been fascinated by child development and knew that working with children was my calling. Over the years, my passion has led me through diverse roles in disability services, counselling, mental health, and education, including working in multi-disciplinary teams at organizations like Disability Services, Relationships Australia, the Autism Association, and the Dyslexia-SPELD Foundation. I hold a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology.
When I’m not at work, I enjoy immersing myself in a good book, walking in nature, practising yoga, and spending quality time with my beloved family.
If you have concerns about your child, please don’t hesitate to reach out. You can contact me at the practice on Ph. 6381 0071. I look forward to meeting you and working together to support your child’s well-being.
